If you are a Type A worrywart, living in the now sounds great. I however knew some people who didn't think about the future at all, who lived totally in the now without fear of consequences. For them, the Tolle books were a disaster because they would misapply it and use it as an excuse to continue to be irresponsible and ignore responsibility.
